Hernando County Real Estate

    Hernando County is located about 40 miles north of Tampa and sits on the Gulf of Mexico on Florida’s stunning Nature Coast. The population was recorded at around 172,000 in 2010 and in 2005 it was one of the 35 fastest growing counties in the entire United States.

    It was established around 1840 and was then named De Soto County. Fort De Soto was setup on the boundary of what is now Brooksville to protect the settlers from Native Americans.

    Hernando County sprawls across 589 square miles, of which only 478 square miles is land. Consisting of 18% water, as you might imagine Hernando County is very popular among water lovers and features several waterfront communities.

    Golf is another favorite of Hernando County residents and with the weather being almost perfect year round, why not play a few rounds at Silverthorn, Seven Hills, Hernando Oaks or ne of the several other courses in the area.

    Looking for nature? Hike through the Withlacoochee State Forest or simply enjoy one of the many recreational parks that Hernando County has to offer.

    Why not try riding the Suncoast bike trail or visit the live mermaids at Weeki Wachee. While you’re there kayak down through the Springs.
